welcome 87pyro3.

read the FAQs like IanS linked.

just to get you started, i'll throw these thoughts out:

1. TEMPERATURE CONTROL - these engines are very sensitive to heat (and they build a LOT of it based on how they do their jobs) so if you remember nothing else, make sure your cooling system is in tip-top shape! the antifreeze and everything connected (thermostat, water pump, etc.) are important. however, i may go out on a limb and say the oil (lubrication) system is even moreso. they use oil naturally, so be diligent in checking the levels and change your oil appropriate to your usage (i.e. if you're always driving it hard, then change it more frequently).

2. OMP or PREMIX - make sure that you are getting oil to the combustion chamber. the apex seals need to stay lubricated.

3. GENERAL MAINTENANCE - a diligent and consistent tuneup schedule is key to getting the most out of your motor.

4. COMMON SENSE - maintain the car. there's no point in making the engine all it can be if the car itself is half-assed. what i mean is expand your maintenance focus to brakes, steering and suspension. there's a tire commercial out there that says "power is nothing without control," it may sound corny, but it's true. so if it means you have to put off getting that stereo system, strobe light, discoball or header so you can do your brakes, then please do so.

enjoy.
