New Alternator installation help please
okay so my car has been dead for well over a few months, was finally able to get a new alternator from a place that specializes in rotary's problem is when i noticed i took the old alternator off and tried putting it back on day later just to make sure i could do the install myself, i noticed that when i first took it off the mounting brackets for the alternator were snug as a bug when i undid the mounting bolt, but the next day as a test, when i went to remount it, it would not secure in and there is a lot of free play moving it back and forth. the same is for the new alternator i got, the mounting portion of it is not securing to the mount and it can move back and forth, which is affecting not only the general stability of it, but im unable to get the alternator to lift up enough to fasten the belt tension bolt. please help. I got a 88 GXL.

Um, what? Can you maybe rewrite that with some punctuation so that we can understand what you are asking?
I gather that once the alternator is installed you can't move it up enough to get the belt on?

its fine, sorry for my poor punctuation, i managed to get it on, there was a washer that was missing on the back part of the mounting panal, i guess it must of fell off when i removed the old alternator. found it under the car, new alternator is on and car is running fine. however i did notice something else that kind of has me a little bit concerned, my car has been disabled since novemember, when i looked under the car and found that washer, i noticed that there were some wet spots around the middle of the car on the floor, i put my finger in it and it looked and felt like sluged oil. i also just did an oil change after i noticed that sludge, ran the car for a good 30 minutes no leaks were apparant, took the car out for a test run for an additional 15 minutes or so, brought it back checked under and still no leaks, so idk if it was just backed up oil that sludged up and just leaked out somehow but idk.
