Hi my name is Ethan ... I am totally new to the rotary scene!! Sorry if I have any uninformed questions or comments but I feel like I've been researching long enough to ask a solid question xD ...( I've been looking through forums for a good 6months or so before I bought my fc)

So I'm a Subaru boy and one of the things I have done to my wagon was purchased a brand new
aftermarket machined ej257 ...

So is there anyone doing this with our 13b? I just bought a S4 with S5 drivetrain and really would love to start with a fresh engine. I saw an old post saying Mazda sells a new one from the factory at a great price. But as we know aftermarket products usually fix/reinforce manufactured mistakes specifically for racing standards.

If noone is making brand new motors ... Why not? I feel it'd be quite profitable.

​​​​​My next option is fixing up my S4 engine ... It's old 174k ... I'm planning on fixing and replacing everything from the ground up ... Is there a way to give it new life? Like a new coating or something for the innards?

Hey Ethan..welcome.
If the car is working right now,take some time to enjoy it before you lay it up with all the "Mod Dreams".
Rebuilt engines are fairly priced compared to NEW and you can also try your own hand at a rebuild by catching some informative rebuild videos off of YouTube by AARON CAKE.
Remember that since the car is 30 years old the thought of making NEW engines is a little off base.Since the car and engine is not exactly the normal thing that Car guys look at or drive every day it would not be as profitable as you think.
We do have some good guys on Forum that Rebuild engines so maybe they will chime in..(But Don't ask for parts or services in this TECH Section)

I believe misterstyx is correct, NEW engines are no longer produced. However, I believe I read somewhere that Mazda does sell refurbished 13Bs. I want to say they are ~$4k...I'm new so someone feel free to blast me if that's way off.

They do for the renesis i believe, no longer for the 7s

Even still, I honestly wouldn’t want a reman’d from mazda, their QC went way downhill with them because i believe they pay someone else to rebuild them

Thanks for the info guys! Ya the engine runs but it has a coolant leak so I have to take it apart. Im in the process of getting all the parts cleaned to check which are salvageable!

Its going to be a long project build and Im hoping to get the 250-350 whp ... any recommendations for good seal kits?? I hear that stock seals are great and you dont need anything else. But if that was the case why are there so many aftermarket seal kits?

With 250-300 It should be a relatively reliable build and shouldn't be too hard to get to that power with a small turbo.

Aftermarket seal kits to me are like an attempt of improving the wheel..Then again you can get better seals for numerous applications,just read some info before you decide.
The only reason I didn't rebuild with aftermarket seals is because I didn't want to screw with the Working Engine..I went with "if it ain't broke don't screw with it"!

I got 357 HP on Stock S5TII internals.BUT I had a bunch of "slap on" mods that helped immensely.
This being done with a TURBO engine.If you got a Normally aspirated engine then I would really be doing some digging if you want to go that route.It's not just plopping parts on.

Did you have a stock port on that engine? I'd like to know how reliable 250-300whp is on a totally stock engine. I don't mind doing a turbo hybrid/upgrade, just don't really want to mess with the engine.

Like I said im new and have no clue but from all the information ive been gathering s4 stock tends to hold well at about 300-350 whp so I feel a reliable build would come out of 250whp the s5 and s6 have a bigger bolt sheath in on e of the areas that reduce engine crack

So update ... my coolant sidewalls seals are toast ... so this is a S4 NA ... I was going to do a rebuild and turbo but the turbo manifold is different on the S4 NA then the S4 Turbo ... which mean custom fab work is needed to convert from 6 port to 4 port intake.

Itll be easier to just get a turbo motor is what im seeing everyone on here say. Ive been looking around and cant find a place that sells them. Does anyone know a place where I can pick up a cheap turbo 13b to rebuild or a well priced rebuilt 13b turbo? Im digging around in the classifieds section right now.

Ya,I had a stock port on the engine.As I said I didn't touch the internals.
I put an FD upper and throttle body on it..Haltech Ps1000 with 1000/2000 Injectors..To4s Turbo..

I think RXTuning and Performance (Facebook) has the video of my 357 hp Dyno Pull..(turbo was toasted.)

I found a engine for 900$ I was gonna put a delay on getting a turbo for my build but now that Ill be getting a turbo engine ill have to get a turbo sooooooo. Im just trying to find a short term turbo setup... I found a Subaru WRX TD04L ... on a subaru with 160Hp engine you get about 220HP with the stock 13lbs of boost ... anyone know if this turbo would work for a RX7 build?
