Hey all im looking to get a Rx-7 a late 80's and im wondering what kind of engines you can swap with. also im wondering if a 1.6l 1990 mx-5 engine would work in a rx-7. just looking to see if someone can list me some engines that will work, before i go off and make a purchase.

Just about any engine will fit in an RX-7's bay. Is there a reason you think the stock rotary won't work?

If your going to go through the hassle of swapping in a new motor that wasn't designed for the car you should do something worthwhile that won't cost you a ton of money to make power. Drop a v8 in or put a stock engine back in. After all the hassle and cost of putting the miata engine in you are going to have less power than a stock n/a and have spent more time and money than it's worth. You could do a turbo swap for less than you could probably swap the miata in for.

Honestly if you have to ask, have you ever been involved in this kind of project before?
