rx7addict 80 RX7 LS Leather Sport Edition

Referencing a tread saw in relation to my 1980 Mazda RX7 LS Leather Sport Edition. Question as to the speedometer dial reading to 130 MPH. As you can see from the pictures in the gallery it does go to 130 MPH. I know that Mazda produced 2500 units of this car in May of 1980. Before they could be shipped world wide federal regulations made Mazda change the speedometer dial to 85 MPH. It is highly unlikely that one slipped through the cracks but likely that I have one that slipped through. Dash, everything all original and highly unlikely that someone replaced the speedometer. Car is said to have a top speed of 124 MPH. Advise / Comment

I looked through your gallery of pictures and it appears that you have a standard 1980 GS trim level RX-7 with the 81-85 standard aluminum wheels. The leather Sport came only in Solar Gold, Brilliant Black, and Aurora White. Your car appears to be Tornado Silver Metallic. The speedometer font is not correct for the instrument cluster and I would believe that it was replaced. I can post a picture of an original 1980 cluster versus a 1979 cluster if you'd like.

This is my original 1980 LS in Solar Gold:
