It sounds as though you have a bent or broken shift rod.

You may be able to get them back into place by removing the shifter and manually wiggling the shift selector around. However more than likely, the transmission will need to be removed so that the tail housing can come off to access the shift forks.

is the shifter loose a bit?
then it may be that a bushing has busted and is preventing you from shifting.
Pop the top of the shifter surround off( put screwdriver in edge and pry up,it snaps in.) then move the rubber boots up on the shifter and you will see 3 10mm bolts on the steel collar surrounding the shifter.
take those 3 bolts out and pull straight up and your shifter pops out of the transmission..just like that!
