ok i also have an 85 GS... Bought it mainly for the motor cause the body is in bad shape (gonna replace the whole front end and repaint it, and strip the interior), the man who had it before me used it for drags and says it has about 275 horses but i havnt been able to really test her... is there a way that i could test the motor and find out if something is wrong?

 

Other than pulling the plugs and listening to the puffs of air as you rotate the motor, there's not much I can think of to tell you anything about it without actually running it.

if it starts runs and drives fine with no smoke then likely nothing is wrong. pretty basic test.
