Thumbs up MSD Help!

I am new to rotary power, (never heard that before). I bought a 1st gen for $500 with a 13b carb bridgeport and drove it 2 hours home. I think I did ok but there are a few things I wanr to get done. I put brakes and other stuff but it has an msd box with three coils. It is weird because it uses three wires to the dist. and some direct to plugs. I am trying to fix this and go with 4 coils. I need some help plz. Do I get an 86 dist and wire up two mds with 2 coils per box? Any help would be great!!!!!! Oh and how do I tell what 13b is in the car(85 or 86+)? Thanx in advance, I work at avdance auto so any discounts just ask!

Sounds like what they have done is convert the leading coils to direct fire while leaving the trailings stock.

You should leave it as is. There is no reason to go with individual coils on the trailings.

Off hand I can't think of any outward differences that are obvious between the '86 13B and the '85.

well, isn't it better to run multi-sparks to get better combustion even if it is the trailing? I want to get rid of the 4 holley and get a 2 webber. Well, is that a good idea? I am such a noob! Thanx for the help!

leave the ignition as is. that setup is what's known as 'waste spark' on the leading plugs, like the later models run. the engine will run without trailing all together. if u try this setup on the trailing, it will cause a plug to fire at the wrong time in the rotation. it's ok to change to a weber if u want. u can sell the holley to recoupe some of ur cost.

Use the One box for the leading coil(s).
If you want the Trailings to operate with an MSD setup you would be looking at setting another box to ONE Rotor(trailing) and another for the Second Rotor..so total boxes is 3(One for leading and 3 for each singular trailing)..total coils is 3 or 4 depending on Setup.

k cool. So what I have know is 1 box and 4 coils(2 smaller msd and 2 blaster 2). Can you please explain that set up. I know that spark on trailing at a bad time is no good. I was trying to run the 86 dis and set up 2 boxes to 2 coils each. How would the set up look like for the 3 box setup or any other ideas? By the way thank you for the input guys.
