Which Mount ? Poly v. Aluminum v. Steel

Well, I decided to change out both my motor and tranny mounts after realizing some stress fractures in them. I'm some what stumped though, I dont know what mounts to go with. If someone can guide me in the pros and cons of each and which is overall best for my '87 FC. Thank you very much.

I would go with poly if considering driving it on the streets.... unless you dont mind a constant vibration from solid mounts. its a night and day diff.

Poly unless you're into hard launchs and/or have signficantly raised horsepower. In fact, for a street car that's only mildly modded I'd find the softest durometer I could. It will still likely be firmer and last way longer than the old rubber mounts but keep NVH at a minimum.

Daily driver? Then go with stock mounts.

Solid mounts won't increase vibration that much, however they will bring all of the harshness and noise of the drivetrain into the cabin. You'll be hearing stuff you have never heard before, like the gear lash in the differential.

If you're driving on the street do Poly... Metal mounts will vibrate the car, and all that. Unless of course you are building a full on racecar.

I'd go stock, because the added NVH of stiffer mounts isn't really worth it on a DD, in my opinion.

That being said, it's all in how you drive it. If you're doing drag launches at every light, then you probably need to go with stiffer mounts, but the stock ones are fine if you're being civilized. The thing to keep in mind is that the car is 25 years old, and it's very likely the mounts are the originals. Replace with stock and enjoy the car.
