IL Miss My 7

I got my first RX-7 almost 15 years ago. Every other car I have owned has been an RX-7 ever since. I am looking at buying an 84 GSL tomorrow. Is in decent shape for being just shy of 30 years old. Just worried about some rust on the bottom side of the floorboards. Anyone know if rust hole under there are repairable or terminal. Doesnt seem to be a popular tech topic. As a mechanic the only thing that scares me is body work. LOL Gota love these cars!

Unless it is a very great (cheap) deal, I'd stay away. Rust is almost always a losing battle, and there are still many 7s out there that decent shape.

To deal with rust, you really have to LOVE bodywork. Floor boards themselves aren't all that bad, but the floorboards are probably just a small sample of a much larger problem. Check the wheel wells, frame rails, and especially behind the storage bins (easily removed with a phillips screwdriver). You probably won't like what you find there...

Thanks for the insight Kentetsu. Im not really sure it is the greatest deal but it is in my price range. Seemed the rust was mostly just the outer panels and not the floorboard itself. He wants $2000 so Im back and forth. It has a header and 17in wheels with the usually minor 30 year old problems. Everything else I see in that much better shape is twice the price. Decisions Decisions.....

Shop around. You can find nearly perfect cars in that price range. I just found one for my neighbor a couple of weeks ago. Be patient if necessary, and you will come out ahead in the long run....
