Metal shavings in oil
After my last oil change I have noticed a few small metal shavings in the oil, I drive a 1987 rx7 gxl, The car sat for 20 years, I have put 12k miles on the motor since last December. I use Castrol Gtx 10w-40(non-synthetic) and I also premix, I redline the car atleast three times a day, should I be concerned?
wow home much metal shavings? shaving under any circumstance isnt normal. but id drive it cautiously compression test asap. know whats under the hood now and not 100 miles away from home stranded waiting for a tow truck.
If its your bearings it can cause damage to the rotors, irons, and eshaft.
The rotors themself will rub on the irons face and flatten the side seals, rendering the rotor unusable.
It can also cause overheating from the friction associated with bad bearings
Were you over revving the engine?
If it still runs it will likely have problems in the near future if it doesn't already.
On the plus side, NA engines aren't in demand like Turbo ones so they're cheaper to buy a usable block.

How bad was it? I've seen oil with glimmer that came out of good running cars. It usually takes the sun to hit it just right to spot it. There will be some metallic shimmer due to normal wear.
What's the best way to determine the culprit? Send the oil to be analyzed?
