Making 85 big bearing lsd diff small bearing friendly

i have searched and seard but found no definite answer to if i can make my 85 lsd accept the small bearing axles. if i can how do i go about this? swapping the side gears is what i read but im not sure if this is true and if so how do i go about it

The side gears are what the axles lock in to, so that's what has to be changed. Unfortunately, the side gears from an open diff won't go into an LSD, so you would need to find a small axle LSD unit anyway.

If you do find one and it's all worn out so swapping side gears would then be a practical solution, the whole differential has to be taken apart. The LSD unbolts from the ring gear and 4 big screws hold it together, then the side gears can be replaced from the stack of clutch disks. Then after everything's bolted together, the lash between the ring and pinion needs to be reset.
