Major Problems

When I was driving today on the freeway I noticed a loss of power and when I accelerated the car started to bog but still traveled. Drove for about another 8 miles and stopped at a parking lot with friends. I soon found out my cat was on fire and put it out quickly. Car starts every time but idles very rough and sometimes dies. I drove it around in parking lot and it would toggle between full power when accelerating then start bogging or stall. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Thanks a whole lot.

Well, did you hollow-out or replace the cat? Fire has a way of damaging things.

What probably happened: Loss of leading ignition, causing the trailing ignition to perform full duty. This results in a very late ignition of fuel, with most of the burning mixture being shot into the exhaust system. The loss of leading ignition would also be felt as a sudden, drastic reduction in horsepower.

What you need to check: To confirm this theory, you would remove the lower (leading) spark plugs and check for spark.

Also, please include year and trim level when posting with an issue. Fortunately, this one fits pretty much any rotary powered car.

Best of luck...
