Loss of power at 5000 RPM

I have a 1995 Bathurst R, I put it in a lock-up garage for the winter (as it was particularly cold one this year in Engalnd), I recently took it out for a spin, it would seem that I had a slight leak in the boot before I locked it up (this may be relevant as it might make the 2 issues unrelated), which meant that there was some moisture in the car, when I started up the car there were 2 faults and I am not sure if they are related. 1) the odometer no longer displays (possibly from the moisture in the car) 2) at approx 5000 RPM in 2nd and 3rd gear I get a complete loss of power, it simply hits a wall and then decelerates to about 4500 RPM then the power kicks in again. I thought originally that it might be the 2nd turbo, but I do not think that this would explain a complete loss of power (its more akin to a limiter, but it doesnt always kick in at exactly the same point), as a note this does not happen in first gear it revs right past 8000 RPM, also if I really push it, accelerate really hard (and keep it on the road) sometimes it goes a little past 5000 RPM. Help..... I am completely stumped, any advice or tips would be appreciated before I bring it to a specialist dealer.

John

welcome to the board.

my first instinct would tend toward checking for boost and vacuum leaks, in general, but specifically in and around the activation of the secondary turbo. also, when was your last tuneup? you may also want to get that out of the way, too.

good luck.

Thanks for the welcome to the board and cheers for the advice, the last tune-up was around november, just before being locked away for the winter. I will have to do some reading and have a crack at looking for the vaccum leak, once I get the current issues fixed I will be giving her a tune-up before enjoying the summer. The odometer not displaying is a bit of a pain, I checked all the fuses, thats about as far as my electrical knowledge goes. It has the origianl Jpn display KM and is limited to 180 KPH, so might have this swapped out and the PCM flashed while I am at it. My only concern about having it converted was the potential resale value in the future, as I think most people like to see the original info here incase the mileage is falsified.

I have the exact same problem on my 92 jdm, odo and 5000k loss with a few other problems. It all happened after winter. I wont ever store this car outside again!!
Ive replaced most of the vaccume lines (stayed away from alot of the hoses on plastic nipples)
Tried repacing the ECU (OEM)
New plugs
Tested TPS its OK
Main engine ground (under the motor)
Also checked at as many wires and wire connections(carefully!!!!)
Next on the list i want to check or replace Ignition coils and wires. thats all i got for now let me know if you stumble across a solution.
