losing all my clutch fluid?
ok, i have a 88 s4. the car sat for a long time before i got it, when i picked it up the clutch was on the floor, completely dead. i noticed the clutch fluid resivoir was empty so i added fluid and bled it off. i got the clutch working good for a while at least a month and a half, untill i noticed that all the fluid had slowly been leaking out of the clutch master res, and was completly out. not to mention the clutch was on the floor again. so again i did the process of filling the resivoir up and bleeding out the system,and the clutch still works fine. what i have been reading is the clutch master cyclinder can go out and the fluid may be soaking up in the fire wall or else where? or even the slave could be bad?. i dont know what exactly to do first or even what to fix first? any suggestions or any thing would be nice thanks!

Obviously you have a bad leak. If you can't see it, it's most likely the master cylinder. I would replace all 3 major clutch components: master, slave and the clutch hose. You can get all 3 parts from Mazdatrix, or most parts stores. I would suggest at least the braided stainless hose from Mazdatrix.

i dont know how long its been since the clutch has been changed, because i just baught the car, but i know the clutch master cyclinder and the slave are just as old as the car and from what i have gathered its most likely what has caused the problem. and i am replacing the line when i change the master and the slave. thanks for all the help guys

I had a similar problem with my clutch sticking to the floor. I tried bleeding it to see if that would help and it did nothing. I replaced the clutch master cylinder and it resolved the problem for me

a good way to tell if it is just the master cylinder is to look where the clutch goes through the fire wall down in the foot well. a lot of times it runs down and the carpet soaks it up. personally i would follow RotaryRocket88's advice and change all three. If the seals on the master cylinder are going bad the slave cylinder can't be too far behind.

i got it all put together today and installed. it seems to be working fine im pretty confident that was the problem well i guess its on to the next problem on this car, hah now i know what they meen when they say you better have some money for these cars!

You see,If you had just replaced One Part,then another would have Gone,shortly after.This is because the new part would have exerted more pressure than what the old parts could handle.
The best Solution is What you DID..Replacing ALL hydraulic parts on your Clutch will now entitle you to drive the car with the Comfort of Knowing your Clutch will work..For a Long time.
At least until the Disc goes!..

once i read about this problem i gathered that from what most of the community members had said it was best just to change the whole works out, cause the problem that would occour with newer parts vs older parts. it would have been just a waste of time to mess with one thing at a time! thanks guys for all your input it really does help
