Lose power between 4 and 5k rpm

Looking for some help when I get to around 4K car starts bucking and backfires. But if I accelerate very very slowly and get past 5k rpm it takes off like a rocket but between 4K and 5k in normal driving doesn’t want to run. Car is all stock Thanks

What year is the car? We need to know as there are multiple engines and changes over the years.
