WA Looking for help in choosing an FC

Hello!

I am looking for some suggestions on which FC to buy. Currently I am looking at a series 5 NA.

I read the stickies for the FC above and still had some questions.

First of all, I'm not new to the import or modifying scene. Did a lot of work on many cars including doing my own reflashing and dyno tuning on serveral cars.

My main question is if there is any significant differnces in the Series 4 and 5, and Turbo and NA besides the obvious engine/ tranny differences.

I plan on installing a LSx into the car, so the engine/ tranny differences will not matter. I want to redo the paint, body kit, etc. So currently I am looking at the NAs since they are cheaper to start off with, and if I am replacing most of the parts, I don't see a reason to spend the extra cheese on the Turbo.

If there are some reasons I should I would love to know.

Thanks for looking!

TII and NA chassis are the same, and basically the same from S4 to S5. The later S5 cars have a slightly different (some say better) interior, more modern external trim and tail lights, and a few minor mechanical changes (not counting engine/drivetrain stuff).

TIIs have a better suspension than NAs, generally. You'll want a 5 lug car. You're going to want a TII diff, regardless of whether you start with a TII or NA.

Look for a GXL,GTU, or Turbo2 model. GXL and GTU are N/A and have 5 lug and LSD but the LSD in the GXL and GTU are not as strong as the Turbo2 thats why Aaroncake said youll want a Turbo2 diff but S4 have clutch type LSD and S5 have viscous type LSD. Its said the clutch type is better then the viscous type but I cannot provide proof other then the word of other people who have had both. Research it if you care that much but if you are looking at a place for V8 swaps look at granny speeds site, has bolt in kits for the FC chassis

Appreciate the responses guys. The car I'm looking at tomorrow is a 89 GTU.

Anything I should look for on the inspection and test drive?

What is a ballpark figure for one with a straight title/ body and 171k miles?

He meant S5 vs. S4 which I tend to agree on even though all I ever had was S4s. but there is no real big difference in the actual cars other then 10 more hp and minor "upgrades" to exterior and interior and the LSD type switch

A GTU is an NA car, so it comes with the weaker drivetrain.
