NC Looking for good RX-7 Mechanic

Have a 91 convertible that I bought new. In the last few years It has not been driven much and spends most of the time in my garage. It has 90,000 miles and I have never had any problems with the car but now with long periods of not being driven things are starting to happen. I now have a flashing seat belt light that will not go off. The warning buzzer stops when the belt is fastened but the light continues to flash. When I try to go to high beam on the head lights they flash on but switch back to low beam. If I pull the light switch back and hold it, the high beam flashes in unison with the flashing seat belt warning. All other lights and warning signals etc are working properly. A local mechanic told me the light switch is broken. Since both of these problems occurred at the same time, I doubt it. I need someone to fix it. I live in Eastern North Carolina. Thanks for any help you can give me

Willing to bet your CPU has gone bad. If it has air bags, it should be an FC66 CPU that you need, if not, FC01.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/s5-vert-cpu-fried-972581/ sorta similar.

I really appreciate the help. Could I get this item from a Mazda dealer and would they install it. The car has one air bag. I had an earlier problem when the airbag warning light would not go out but it seemed to have fixed itself after a time. I think this car needs a new driver that can fix these things when they occur.
Thanks for your time

Checked with the Mazda dealer today and found that the CPU has been discontinued and they don’t have a clue how to fix it anyway. This was no surprise. Is there a company that will repair these? If I can’t get this fixed the car will not pass inspection. I guess this at least will save the insurance, registration fees, etc.

The 86-88 ones were repairable by resoldering most of the time, but there's something on the board here that goes bad.

There was a guy, Icemark, on this forum who did the repair of all electrical components. This item, the FC66 CPU, was one that he didn't touch, as they're just so prone to failure. Apparently the new ones from mazda are re-designed & alot less prone to fail.

Check with these guys: www.mazdatrix.com. Give them a call first, here's the part's direct link- http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=67-5640-FC66

Lastly, you can install this yourself with a #2 phillips screwdriver, & a 10mm long deep socket & ratchet.

First, pull the Driverside scuff plate (reads MAZDA on it). Then up between the door hinge & pedal cluster is a kick panel. It's held in w/ 3 push rivets, made of plastic. Remove it. You may need to peel up some of the door weather stripping for it to come out. Under, you'll see the "FC66" black box, w/ 3 or 4 wiring pigtails connected to it,k & 1 10mm nut at the very top. Remove the nut, free it, then remove the wiring, and you're done.

You may find this link useful, too: http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/2nd_gen/

Good luck!

I Fixed it today and the car passed inspection. Your help made the difference. Now the only problem with the car is the wiper switch. Maybe if I look long enough I will find someone to rebuild it for me.
