CA Looking to buy

I'm looking to buy a first gen. Any recommendations on a specific model...and why? I plan to tear it down to the chassis for a rebuild (practice my painting, weekend track car, etc). All I really know is that I want fuel injection.

Your only choice then is the '84-'85 GSL-SE. They were the only 1st gens offered in North America with fuel injection.

lol, some of us are doing just fine with carb'd 12a motors.

An SE would be a great deal, if you can find one. Otherwise, try to hold out for a GSL so you get the rear disc brakes and the LSD rear end.

Or, you can do what I did, and start with a GS (I believe this was the lightest model) and then swap in a GSL rear end. After that, a free flowing exhaust, a Sterling carb (www.sterlingmetalworks.com), and Respeed suspension (www.re-speed.com) and you'll be good to go.

Good luck with your project, and feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. I received lots of assistance with my build, so I'm more than happy to help out those who are starting out.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure carbed is fine for most people...but I'll want the tunability (precision) of fuel injection. To be honest, I don't even know what motor I want in the car. I saw a thread that had a 2JZ engine swapped in. That's bad a$$! I wonder what made the GS lighter than the other chassis.
