Looking to buy a 1989 Mazda Rx7 gxl

Hello everyone, I have questions about an RX7 that I'm looking to buy. If you have any suggestions or help it would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about an RX7 although I'm looking to purchase one for roadracing in the SCCA. I also have a lot of local people that are willing to help me out with a rotary. Please let me know if this deal is worth the money and time investment or not.

Vehicle Information

1989 Mazda RX7 GXL shell (White)-color. $800 obo

119,000 Miles manual transmission

Owners description- So I've got a 1989 gxl shell for sale. Currently no motor or transmission in it. Dash has also been pulled, the firewall was cut to fit an engine (3800 supercharged)... Was a project for something else but plans changed. I'm also including the stock suspension, spare rear end, and basically any other parts I find in my storage.

I've been communicating with the seller and he's informed me of a few other things that I'm concerned about.
-Some damage to the subframe some dents in it.
-Hole in passenger side floorboard.
-wire harness in the cabin is damaged, was cut when the firewall was cut out
-No ignition lock cylinder or switch,
- was an Automatic car converted to manual.
-cars been sitting anywhere from 3-4 years

Seller told me that he would include the original 13b engine harness, 13b that needs rebuilt, and a turbo 2 transmission.

I'm trying to bring this car back to a Rotary and was curious on the difficulty of the project I'm getting into. Firewall wouldn't be a problem but the cabin harness is what's scaring me. Any suggestions or ideas will be very helpful! I'm also willing to travel if anyone on this forum has any FC rx7s for sale. Preferably 89-91 although I would consider 86-88.

I'm located in Kansas.

Thanks,

It would be fine for a SCCA car. I think you can get it cheaper based on the FB ad. It missing a lot a parts but as a race dedicated car it's a good start. Keep in mind that your going to invert ~$4000 just to get it going with a rotary engine.

Price is definitely "or best offer" please make an offer. I'm moving and need this stuff gone. Can get more pics if you ask. Do not want to part out, I want it all gone."

Thank you for the reply!
Facebook is where I originally found the post and I've been communicating back and forth with the seller. Said he'd be back in town tomorrow so he'll send me a few more current pictures of the car and what's included in the deal. Gonna run the Vin number before buying 5o Check the carfax. Going to look at the car Saturday the 23rd.

I'd patch that firewall up...seems like you could get a running FC for what it's going to cost you, then you could part out what you didn't need and make some money back.

The firewall will undoubtedly be patched, although i do have concerns about the cabin harness that was damaged in process of cutting the firewall. How difficult and confusing are these harnesses? If the harness is junk/unsalvagable, and i resort to looking for a new one would the harness have to be specifically for an 89-91 gxl model? Or can i use any 86-91 cabin harness? I'm not looking to have all of the features of the gxl as it will be built for road-racing so all the extra luxury i wont need. Although i would like to drive it on the streets every once in awhile so having headlights, taillights, turn signals, gauge cluster, heater, etc. is a necessity.

And this will also be a project that i'll work on overtime . If i do end up getting it i will make sure the body and frame is worth putting money into it before i go any further as well as patching the firewall. Once that's out of the way assembling the interior with a proper dashboard and a working cabin harness will be next on the list. I know it will take time and money but finding this year of Rx 7 and it being white as well is difficult to find here in the Midwest. Plus i see it as a learning experience to build a shell from the ground up to where i want it to be instead of buying an already running FC. Although if i do happen to find one that's running for a great deal i will buy that on. This is just a deal that i came across on fb market place and had me intrigued to buy it.

It likely didn't touch the dash harness, and I think they are different. The wiring for the idiot light pinouts are different in the harness .
