Looking to buy a 1985 RX7 GSL

Hello everybody! I have been browsing this website for a little bit now and finnaly registered. I was posting this thread to see if this car is worth it. I have been browsing for my secondary car (hopeful to become my primary car) and I found a 1985 MAZDA RX-7 GSL 5SPD. Since I was interested i started to ask the owner alot of questions about the car. The following are all in the owners words:

-im no mechanic but my mechanic said that its not holing compression said it will need the o rings replaced and maybe a gasket set...or it could have just jumped time which means all it will need is timed and tuned and then it will be running again....it will need a fuel filter which i already have just havnt put it on ill give that to you but other than that its all good and no its not the 12a stock its the 13b rotary but its none turbo...i was gonna put a small block v8 in a year ago now i dont have the extra money.
-not PA inspected and but shouldnt have any problem passing it wont start everything gets power but engine wont turn over so it can be driven home
-the last time it was started was about a year ago also i just remembered the car will need a key made for the ignition i put a new ignition and switch in cuz when i bought the car it didnt have an ignition but after it was fixed i never got a key made for it thats ony a few dollars any lock smith can do it and the motor is the same as the car its also a 1985 it just came from a gsl SE edition '85 and no modifications to the engine just i cut and mounted a hood scoop for air cool
-its got a new ignition switch and colum the clutch has less than 1000 miles on it new starter and 40 gauge wires plugs are brand new never been used and there are some blue neons in the cab that light up the driver and passenger side(I could care less about neons)

That was basic copy and paste from a whole email conversation we had in the past hour. I have offered the guy $650 for the car and he has agreed for it. Before I go ahead and get it would it be worth it? Would I end up having to overhaul the motor? I do not want to go into debt because of this car so I am asking you, Is this car worth it?

Note: I am not all mechanicly inclinde but I am trying to learn. I am only 18 and well I love cars. I've been working on my Caddi for a bit now and I know this is a big transfer. I do not think I will be capible of rebuilding the motor.

unfortunately, it sounds like you should pass on this one. the photos and e-mails don't match because it looks like a 12A, but that's neither here nor there because either way, it sounds like you're facing an engine rebuild. an honest-to-goodness compression test will tell you the story, but "jumping timing", "replacing o-rings" and "the engine won't turn over" sounds a lot to me like someone blew up the engine.

a rebuild is not a big deal really, but if this is your first rotary and you can't do the work yourself, then it has now BECOME a big deal ... and costly, too. keep looking.

by the way, if the rust checks out okay, it looks like this would be a great little project car if you have the dedication and resources.

ok thanks for the reply. I have decided to keep looking. over night i slept on it and well it did not feel right. I do agree that with dedication, time, and resources, i would be able to rebuild a engine but i dont have that much intrest in this spacific car. I guess i'll keep on scaning the roads along with checking up with craigslist. Thanks for the quick response and well moderators or administrators you may close this thread. Thanks again.
