just a few questions

Hey there. I am new to the rotary but i really like every thing about it and want to learn more. I do not own one yet but i am looking for one right now. so i have a few questions i would like to ask. like what should i be looking for? but there is one that I'm looking at that has a blown coolant seal. I was wanting to know if that can be fixed and if so could someone that starting out do it?

Huh... probably wanna get a little seasoned with rotaries before you try to tear apart the motor yourself. Some people have had luck with the alumaseal stuff you buy at the parts store to remedy the coolant seal.

if the coolant seal is bad there is a good chance the engine was running hot or possibly overheated. This could be bad.

You basically need to rebuild the motor in order to fix a coolant seal. Its not a head gasket where you just pull the head and replace the gasket while the motor is in the car. Everything has to come out and the engine taken apart and put back together. Also, overheating can warp the aluminum engine parts which can add further expense to the project.

Buy a car that is in running condition.

A coolant leak into the combustion chamber can also cause the housings and rotors to rust and become junk. Usually this is only if the engine is allow to sit without being run.

And besides warping, overheating can lead to a cracked water jacket too. I've had this happen to an engine. It still ran, but would immediately overheat again. An engine with this problem would also likely require one or more new irons, housings or rotors.

im looking at another rx-7 thats running and every thing. but when it first starts up it revs at 3k then after 15-30 secs it drops to around 7-9k. is that normal? oh and there there is a switch that that is for the choke. and its a 87 rx-7. dos anyone know whats going on with that?

AWS = accelerated warm up system = 3000rpm for 1st 15 seconds to get cats working = normal.

choke switch probably means fuel pump cutoff switch which also means the car probably has had flooding problems in the past.

Dont be in a rush to find one of these cars.I did a lot of researching (2 years) on the forum before I felt comfortable to own one. These cars can get very expensive fast and the parts are not cheap .Working on these cars are very time consuming . This forum will be very helpful Good Luck!
