just bought struts should i buy springs?

hello, my name is zak and i have an 86 non-turbo rx7 with 101thousand on it. i just ordered some tokico struts, the blue ones. my garage and the guys at AnA said i don't have to replace my OEM springs but a couple car friends of mine highly suggest it. i was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this matter. the benefits of new springs, what kind of springs to get and where to purchase..thanks for your help

Well, if you are going to replace the springs, now would be the time, while you are replacing struts.
Aftermarket performance springs such as Racing Beat, Eibach etc will dramatically improve the handling of your car, but will also lower the car around 1 inch or so, and will drastically reduce the ride quality. If you are looking for better handling, most people don't mind the increased harshness of the ride, because the upgrade in handling is worth it to them.
I have a 88 vert with Eibach's and Tokico Illumina's, and the ride is pretty stiff, but it handles like a go kart. I like it.

Your friends are correct, it's pretty important to get springs that match the struts / vice versa.

For example getting some ultra low springs that dump the car but end up killing the stock shocks prematurely since the range of travel is way out of spec.

By 101K, most of the suspension is worn out. Replace the springs.

at your mileage and since you're getting struts, you might as well change the springs too.
every car i've owned, i changed both together and never had issues.

plus if you find later, that the springs are bad, you'll wind up doubling your work.
i'd just think of it as a good excuse to get two upgrades in one shot.

plus you can get all of the springs loaded before you start mounting.

it's a win/win/win. you replace tired springs with good ones, save time on the install, not having to remove and reinstall, and save time in the future by not having to remove and reinstall when you get new springs.

Eibach pro kit springs they give you like a 1.3 inch drop dont get some cheap springs that dump your car to the flor, that will just mes up your NEW!!! struts and will not improve your drive

i set them to max (5) and loved it. thinking of getting the same setup for the rex once i manage to get it running.
fyi the gr2's are stock equivalents. if they're as good in the rex as the venge, you'd be very happy with swapping the fronts to agx.
