JDM vs USDM differences?

Being that i recently acquired a JDM FD I'm curious how different it is when compared to the USDM FD.
For example when looking for coil overs some sites offer separate coil overs for the S1 FD. is there any difference to mounting or such?

Also, is there a difference in cabin room or design?
I remember fitting slightly better in a USDM FD than my current FD but that may just be due to the pounds I've put on since then :P

Also tried to find some kind of explanation for the differences in all the Series of FDs but couldn't find much.
More interested in mechanical changes than anything i guess.

BC Thread Elsewhere

There is another thread on here which lists differences. Try searching for it. Interesting what you say about sitting room. Looking at the carpets there certainly seem to be less space on the rhd driver's side. We have quite a few rhd up here. One person has said he feels "twisted" in an rhd. But otherwise, no one has mentioned it as an issue.

RHD seat rails don't slide back as much as LHD due to the presence of rear seats. If I bought another RHD, I would be sourcing a set of LHD sliders.

They're not really all that different. The chassis is exactly the same and all parts interchangeable with the exception of the obvious stuff and the downpipe. There's a bunch of trim levels that japan got that the US didn't but other than that, they're identical. When it comes to series of fd, the only time that matters is when buying an ecu and front bumper lights. An fd is an fd otherwise. Rhd japan lists a lot of their parts as such... series 1, 2 , 3 and so on.

Why did the JDM market get rear seats, but not the USDM?

A couple reasons: one, physical size of an average American vs a Japanese.

And two, the more likely and reasonable, something about how a 4 seater registers in japan vs a 2 seater. Not to say that every jdm fd had rear seats. Believe it or not, 4 adult japanese males will fit in an fd with room to spare.

JDM seat rail can be modified by drilling out the stop dimples in the top of the rails, after that they go as far back as USDM rails.
