HI,

I just joined this forum, I just picked up a 93 FD and wanted to say hello and hopefully you guys help me out with some things I have been experiencing.

The vehicle has sat for 3 years without any maintenance...

1) switched out a fuel injector o-ring, accidentally broke the brittle fuel temp sensor. since then the vehicle has issues running after it seems like fuel temps might be affected. just want to confirm that the broken sensor will affect the car in this manner.

2) I haven't gotten the boost gauge wired properly, however it doesn't feel like the turbo is building boost. it has a rubber cap over where the CRV pipe comes from. would like to know if i place the CRV back if it will assist it. (looks like a failed attempt to do a non-sequential setup)

3) car doesn't start unless jumped. took the battery out of my 300zx and it still wont start unless its jumped. once its started we can disconnect the battery and the car runs fine, so i think that eliminates a bad alternator.

If you're on the stock ECU, a bad fuel temp sender will put the car into limp mode. It will (IIRC) also cause hard starting, but with your symptoms I might also do a compression check.
Page F-184 in the FSM covers checking the sensor.

Just to give you a heads up , I believe the fuel temp sensor is the same as the water temp sensor . and they are cheap and readily available for 20 dollars .

also look up for to do a check engine light code check , get a list of all the codes the car is giving you so you can start to work on everything .

 

Thanks, I'll check that out. Hopefully be able to update by Saturday. If these engines sit, do they degrade severely? What would cause it to lose compression while sitting? If the condition wasn't already present beforehand

 

Its code 23 or 32, whichever is for the temp sensor. Kind of dyslexic today

I replaced the sensor, didn't start. When I pulled the old sensor, the fuel rail had very little fuel in it and I didn't depressurize the lines, so I'm thinking pump or fuel filter? Please assist, greatly appreciate all the help so far

If it's not getting fuel, I'd change both.
Pump is easy. IIRC there is a how-to from a member named DaleClark in the 3rd Gen. Section and maybe some more info in the FAQ sticky on the filter change.
