interchanging alternators

i was wondering if a fc or even a fd alternator will fit on an 83 12a. cause my alternator wont take the power i draw from it

Yes they will fit, but with some modification Search the 1st gen archive to find a writeup. If you just need a little more power, an S4 alt will be plug and play. What are you running that you need so much power?

note that its the s5 alt that wires in easily,, just hook to battery, including ref signal

there is also a trick needed with a changeover relay to run the dash light indication on early cars that used to have an external regulator
( the early dash and FC alts have opposite methods of triggering the light )
