So i just turned 18 last week and I wanna get my hands on an Rx-7, only problem is I'm strapped for cash. I found a cheap 1985 first gen roller. It has no tranny or engine. I happened to find a 13B engine and tranny that were pulled from a 1987 FC. I was wondering if I can put a 2nd gen motor and transmission into a first gen car. If I can, what parts would i require? Any input would greatly appreciated.

 

Yes, you can, but it'll likely cost you more than you think adapting things. If you're strapped for cash, you should get yourself a car that already has an engine it.

has done a superb job of describing his swap in the thread entitled The Chronicles
of a Turbo II Swap

 

If you want to just get on the road, you could carb the 87 engine by changing the front cover, modifying the engine mounts a hair, and of course adding a carb. The tranny can come from a similar 1st gen, no problem.

Easier than those options would be to just find a cheap 12A and tranny, and keep the car close to original. I'm not sure if you can view them yet, but there's a large classified section that you can look through and likely find a good 12A without too much cash.
