NH I'm new and i have a question!

I have recently been offered a late 80's (idk wat year exactly) rx7 turbo. The engine will need to be rebuilt with new parts as it doesnt run well right now. the body however is in good shape. They want $575 delivered to my house. Should i do it and rebuild the engine? i have never worked on a rotary before...

I'm no rotary expert since I'm still learning about it since it's my first time working with something that doesn't run with pistons, but the general consensus in the club I seen is to go N/A first to learn your way around them because they are more reliable than the boosted 13b's & easier to work on. And if the engine needs a rebuilt & you have no idea on how to work on it, it might cost you over 2g's for a rebuilt if you have a rotary specialist shop do it for you & if you do it by yourself & mess up, you might just be blowing cash. & not only that other parts will have to be replaced if they are worn out or not working properly since it seems the car has been sitting for a while. if you have the funds&determination to work on the car why not but if you don't I would say skip this one & find something else in a better condition, but that's just me.

$575? I would not pass it up. Charlos what section has the tech on this? I am curious to see, all the rotary guys I know had no issues rebuilding their rotaries after going from a standard piston motor.

This may be long.

From my experience with rotarys, Ive had 4 and a few of my friends have had some. You get the same reliability out of turbo VS. N/a it depends on your driving and how much you boost it. I had a friend who had a 87 turbo II bought it from the original owner it had around 130000 miles on it and was well maintained, one of the strongest cars ive ever been in, he decided to straight pipe it and over boost it and it didnt last 2 months, my other friend bought it from him and had the motor rebuilt, with stock componets, and left it over boosted It lasted about three months, Over boosted is 12 - 14lbs.. Moral of the story build it stronger or keep it stock boost. Dont go cheap, and do it right, your turbo will last as long as you keep it maintained and dont try to boost the **** out of it.

Oh yeah the other guy is right, get ready to put alot of money into it depending on the route you go. It gets expensive.

Ya, I am mechanically inclined to a certain extent(ive built a few piston engines) so i figured that little rotory couldnt be that hard to work on lol Somebody told me to screw the turbo rotory and swap in an ls1? im not usually a fan of this, but i have multiple ls engines sitting around looking for a home and i know these cars dont weigh that much so power to weight would be awesome....I am aware at how much money an rx car can cost to work on, and i have the means to spend most of my money on it right now. Wats the worst that could happen? get it then just turn around and sell it? I appreciate everyone's advice!

man I would pick it up in a heart beat, if you dont pick it up and he wants to sell it for that let me know.. I will get it. But to answer your question more direct yea you should pick it up, you could always get a used engine, tranny, ecu, wire harness with all accesories for around $1000.00 so depends on your budget...
