Ignition timing
welcome to the board.
not trying to be facetious, but if you're asking this question, then it's probably time.
first, state what car you have as the intervals for certain things may vary depending on the car.
1. if the car is new to you, a tuneup is something you should always do. even if the previous owner supplies records, it's a good idea to do it anyway, even if just for the peace of mind. go for a full tuneup (filters, fluids, ignition wear-components, injector cleaning [if applicable], hoses, belts, clean/replace major electricals and grounds as needed, etc.). from then onward, follow the recommended schedules for everything ... at least!
2. if you've owned the car for a while, then follow the recommendations. if you drive the car harder than the average commuter, and/or if you live in a particularly harsh climate, then adjust as you see fit. i know Jersey actually has 4 seasons, so you should be okay.
3. if the car happens to go symptomatic between intervals. fuel filters, for example, can **** themselves at anytime, so if you start having bucking, power drop-offs, stalls, etc., while it may indicate a more serious issue, it could be that you simply need a fuel filter. in which case, check the basic tuneup parts while you're at it.
curiosity makes me ask why you titled the thread Ignition timing just to ask when you need a tuneup? did you have another question?
