Idle issues...I am stumped
Hi everyone. I am restoring a 1984 with a 12A and cannot get it to idle without the choke and if you rev the engine it gets to about 4000 rpm, starts popping and dies.
Here is what I have done so far,
Rebuilt the carb (Nikki)
Cleaned the fuel tank
Replaced the fuel pump and filters
Replaced all the rubber lines
I have sprayed starting fluid looking for a vacuum.
Spark is good.
I did a compression test with the engine well below operating temperature on the top leading plug ,T1 I think, and got 85 lbs.
It feels like a fuel starvation issue but there is good fuel flow into the carb.
I am out of ideas. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

welcome to the forum. the top plugs(T) are trailing. the lower plugs(L) are the leading plugs. sounds like there's still blockage in the carb. where is the fuel level(viewed thru sight glass) in the bowls? what condition is the fuel pump? have u checked pressure? may not have enough flow rate to keep bowls sufficiently supplied with fuel.

Thanks for the quick reply. The fuel pump is new. It's a cheap Ebay pump that claims 4psi at 140 Gph. I think that's the problem. The bowl windows look like they have fuel but I can't tell if the level is correct. I will put a pressure gauge on it and see what it says. I appreciate the help.
