I want Horse power
Alright here we go i have a 1988 mazda rx7 convertible and i also have a 88 coupe both n/a which sucks which translates into insurance sucks. So i want horse power what can i do. I have an electric fan should i install it and i looked up superchargers on ebay there electric and preety cheap what else can i do to get some extra zip. Oh and the coupe is my parts car i took out the engine and am going to rebuild it i did a hand compression test and it seems like the apex seal on the front rotor is blown. I am going to sell the motor so it will be up for grabs real soon. Im 16 and really mechanically inclined took the engine out and apart my self just dont know whats the best way to get horse power help me out. My car is like a drug i work on it when i get home till my parents drag me from the driveway.

Dont buy one of those electric superchargers. They simply dont work. An electric fan is ok as long as it flows enough air to keep the engine/radiator cool. Best bet is to buy exhaust, then intake, and finally ignition wire upgrades. Doesnt necesarilly have to be in that order. Exhaust will help the most.

the 1988 mazda rx7 conv is by factory the slowest rx7 ever made. it just as fast as a 1st gen 12a. tho i own and love my 88 vert.
u need really big ports (n/a) or a turbo engine.
my 88 vert has a big street port with racing beat exh. its fun to drive

Man i wish i had a twin turbo that would be nice but i havent found one for sale yet i guess everyone like em lol but i have thought about conversion. JDM offers a twin turbo with trans and ecu wiring uncut for about 1300. after that I would need a hood and thats about it but it is alot of work I hated unbolting that damn air conditioning bracket on my coupe that alone took 6 hours and the engine took 8 to get out.

are you set on a supercharger or do you just want power?
most people swap the turbo-ed engine from rx7 T2 model.
then your exhaust and intake and ignition wires.
not sure where that will put you as far as horsepower but you should be close.
if not then porting always makes for more fun.

The engine swap will be a summer thing i want to find a better candidate than this beat up convertable plus i like the coupes better. Do you have any idea on were i could get a supercharger. I found one on ebay for like 300 bid still going the thing is huge. and do you agree that the electric superchargers dont work.

If you really want 200 wheel HP, you will need a port job (it costs more then $1100 to rebuild a blown engine), a nice exhaust with a long tube header, cone filter and a standalone with good tuning.

TII doesnt equal twin turbo. not sure if he understands that. im reffering to the first few posts. im too lazy to read everyone elses. If you're motor is out, port it. really, just get a blown 13bt and rebuild it. you could do all that for 1100 bucks easy. rebuild kit is like 400. my 13bt motor was 200 off craigslist. use you're head and be resourceful. You dont need to go out and buy a full motor for 1500

Better idea
Buy a s4 13bt engine for $750.00 from Gspeed and try to get your hands on turbo tranny( I have seen them for $200.00) Then drive like a fairy untill you can change the rear end and drive shaft
