Unhappy I give up... what is missing from my door seal/trim?!

I have been searching and looking at diagrams for an hour. I give up. Will someone please tell me what I need to make the door surround area complete?

It looks like it is missing a trim piece that goes all around the door pinch weld. There was some chunky weather stripping in the hatch when I bought the car, but it has way too many clips, looks like it is for another area on the car, the holes don't line up.

Please help. Pics would be great.

Door seal trim.It starts at the kick panel, goes up and around the top and ends up under the rocker at the rear by the rear seat.
there are 2 seals at the door area. One is on the door, the other is on the car.

Just ordered them from one of the online discount places. Local dealer was $120 each, not in stock. I got them for $89 each plus $12 shipping. OEM mazda parts though

That sounds reasonable. I would have guessed they'd be more. I don't recall any "clips" per se.....it's just a 'pinch fit' over the pinch weld lip. You'll have to remove plastic door sill plates to install it the seal completely. When you go to remove them go easy and carefully. Not unusual for one or more of the seats for the metal clips to break if forced too much. You'll see what I mean.

Looks like a PO had some paint work done and they didn't waist alot of time with masking tape.

they could have at least taken the doors off to paint it..
..and DAMN!..I missed that you didn't put your CAR Series in!..(one demerit point..!)
I was actually giving you an answer for the FC trim, but I guess the FD trim is also compression fit stuff( according to Sgt Blue).

Yeah sorry about that. I will put "FD" in the title next time.

Yes the PO had someone spray the car... I'm guessing a freind. The guy knew how to apply paint, the finish is great. And the paint quality looks good. But they did an absolute crap job prepping the car. From what I can tell they masked the intercooler core, windows, and lights, and then just sprayed the whole car. There is some cracking in the paint where the side skirts meet the body. Complete hack job. But it looks good and I feel I paid a fair price for the car. Maybe in a decade I will pay 3-4K and get the car done right if this paint flakes or chips too much.

The trim that was in the car (shown on the seats) doesn't have a cross section that would lend itself to fitting over any pinch welds. It is a multi-chamber foam extrusion, but there is no "slit" type shape to allow it to fit over the pinch weld. It is a surface mount weatherstrip. And the one for the hatch is still installed there. I have no idea what the unmounted stuff is from. Maybe another vehicle or universal?

Oh not to worry, they just rest in the door sills. PO broke every clip off of them already. I'll just buy some aftermarket ones and probably do the "murdered out except the RX-7 emblem" thing I have seen. Should look great.

Thank you kindly for the warning though sir, I wouldn't want to break them if they were still intact!

FWIW a tube of clear silcone caulk runs $3 or $4. A good dollup of it on those clips, once set, should hold those plastic door sills in place nicely. But if you ever have to pull them up again, it releases easy enough. Pull off the old caulk, add new for re-install. Ask me how I know.

Also, if you have a paint supply store near you, a pint or so of fast-dry enamel reducer on an old rag will clean up those wire boots and other areas of overspray with some elbow grease. In a pinch, brake-parts cleaner would also probably cut it, but alot more expensive.

Also a suggestion...just add your RX7 model (and any major modifications) to your signature, at least while you're in the NEW MEMBER section. That way it' always there and you don't have to remember.
