How to check a used 5 speed tranny?

Hi, I am new to the forum and recently picked up a 1990 Gtu- automatic...and I have read about the swap to a manual,I found one for cheap, but how do I know if its any good? I would still need all the accesories but I would have the tranny and it is close to me...thanks Zeke
