CA How can I verify the fuel system is operational prior to reinstalling the rats nest?

Hi guys,

First time working on an RX7 and I have my hands full. I've been working on my landlord's '93 twin turbo that sat for 10 years and I need some advice.

The car was a crank, no start. First thing I did was test for compression. I removed the schrader valve from my compression gauge and observed the needle rhythmically and evenly jumping to approximately 115 psi. Compression looked good from what I had gleaned from my research.

I confirmed that there was spark at the plugs so my next step was investigate the fuel system. My multimeter indicated there was power at the fuel pump but I did not hear the typical humming noise one hears when a fuel pump is activated. I dropped the tank and discovered that it was full of rust and that the fuel pump had rusted as well. I replaced the fuel pump (with a Walbro) and fuel filter and had the tank professionally cleaned. The car was still crank, no start.

We decided to take the plunge and remove the fuel injectors to have them inspected. At the moment the injectors are out of the car and will be taken to a performance shop tomorrow (Monday Aug 5th) for evaluation and servicing. In the meantime I will test voltage at the fuel injector connectors.

My question is this: Is there a way that I can confirm/verify that the fuel system is functional prior to reinstalling the rats nest? I would really like to make sure those fuel injectors are squirting fuel before I put everything back together. I'm sure some of you can relate.

Additional notes: The owner of the car told me he was having low boost problems when he last drove it. Its the factory sequential turbo configuration. The owner of the car is not interested in making upgrades to the car: he simply wants to get it running so he can sell it.

Any and all suggestions, recommendations, ideas and opinions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance

Forgot to mention that I checked all of the fuses at the beginning and found them in working order

The only failure points in that area I can think of besides the injectors are the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pulsation dampener. Either can leak with age, but that’s usually apparent. They can be replaced separately with OEM or install and aftermarket regulator that has an integrated damper. Some have deleted the dampener altogether.
If the car has any mileage the injector connectors can get a little crispy. Handle them with care. New connectors with pig-tails are available and not expensive.

Thanks SgtBlue I'll take that into consideration.

In regards to testing the fuel system before reinstalling the rats nest, I was thinking about simply connecting all of the fuel injector connectors to the fuel rail, connecting the battery, and cranking the car with the fuel rail removed. That way I could actually see the injectors spraying fuel. I'm not sure if this would actually work since I had to disconnect so many components and what not just to get to the fuel rail. Does anybody have an opinion or commentary on trying this method?
