hopefully getting a 7 soon, need some help

ok im hopefully buying a 87 turbo 2 this week, what are some good starting mods and how high can i safely raise the boost, money will probably be an issue i can maybe spend about $2k on it this summer, i already know i will need exhaust (im probably buying HKS i found on the internet) the turbo might need to be replaced, im thinking im just going to get the stock turbo unless i hear from you guys there are better ones for what i will be using the car for (mainly just for fun maybe do some autocross) i will most likley be buying a front mount intercooler and thats about it let me know what you think i could do....yes this is my first rx7 and i have no experiance with rotary engines but ive done a lot of research on them

thanks in advance for the help

For one, if you open up the exhaust system, the turbo will instantly breath easier. Without a ported wastegate and fuel/fuel control modifications, this is a bad thing. Boost will spike, and you'll hit fuel cut at 8.6 psi. If the turbo has to be replaced anyway, this would be a perfect time to port the wastegate.

These links are a little out of date, but still good overall. Some things not mentioned are the Rtek chips available for stock ECUs: http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.ph...age=1&ecu=S4T2.

Yeah I'd agree that exhaust would be a great first step.

Weber 45 DCOE with short Lake Cities style manifold
Racing Beat header and muffler
Mazdatrix drilled and slotted brake rotors
Stock bushings replaced with Supsension Techniques urethane bushings
New ball joints/tie rods
Earl's stainless steel braided brake line
