Holland FC; first steps

Hi all,

Since a month or 2 I'm the owner of an '86 FC n/a, and I want to start building. Been saving up for parts for a while now, and I'm on the verge of purchasing the first item. namely; An upgrade in suspension. Any thoughts?

I've been going over the brands for coils, and none of the so-called 'entry level' stuff seems to fit the bill for me. Several wise men said; if you want coilovers, and have the bank to go with an 800,- or 900,- kit, please save up and get something real. So now I'm looking to get some Silkroad RM8's. Anyone approve? It's either that, or Ground Control sleeves with Koni or so shocks, but the car's mainly going to be used for daily drives and a lap on the local track now and then, so no hardcore perfomance required. I just want to enjoy my car, I'm no racer.

Therefor; I'd value your opinion. Silkroads a-go-go or should I get the performance stuff and go with GC sleeves & seperate shocks.

Cheers

I'd compare spring rates, and maybe if you can,get 2 sets of springs.Get Coilovers.
That is what I did when I got coilovers as one Set was like driving concrete..The other set was more tolerable.
Now,if you opt to go with GC sleeves and shocks, then you are really spending about as much as a set of decent coilovers. But then again they would be more streetable.
That is why My vote would be for Straight out Coilovers.

When I built my miata's suspension, I started off with replacing all the bushings first. A noticeable difference even on stock new kyb gr2 and oem springs. Next was fcm top hots and bump stops, followed by diff mounts and motor mounts. And last was just upgrading to agx. This setup is not extreme, but for a daily driven turbo miata with a modest 230rwhp it sure is damn fun to drive.

I know its an apples to orange comparision but I figured what good would great shocks and springs do if I have slop everywhere else. Plus in its current setup it rides like its on rails, and thats with out a decent coilover setup. So I will follow this same build pattern for my 88 gxl and start off with replacing all the aged rubber first(including tires) and see how it feels.

The voice of reason. I'm currently in the process of finding out if
Silk Road allows me to choose springrates upon ordering their RM/A8 coilovers
Will update on this!

Definitely true, and I will be looking at bushings and rubbers soon. D'you by any chance know if there's a lot of difference in the master kits from either Mazdatrix or Energy Suspension?

Okay, so I sent an email to Nengun asking if the Silk Road RM/8A
allow user-specified springrates. they don't. So right now I'm in
the process of comparing them to Stance's SuperSport+ kit,
which, as a bonus, comes with helper springs on the rear.

awaiting a reply from Stance USA, will update upon receiving.
