hey wats up guys i jus bought a car and its got problems

ok to start off its a 90 gxl 5-speed and 90k on the motor i think. my problem is that the motor is hard to start, i have to keep it accelerated on cold start but after a few minutes it idles by itself, the motor lacks alot of power its very slow at accelerating, it has no exhaust cause the previous owner cut it off , and its shots fire ***** when decelerating and ideas would be appreciated

So there is no exhaust at all? As in, a manifold dumping to open air? If so, then fix that immediately. Not only is that ear splitting loud, but it is also very unsafe.

Now, as for the other stuff, when is the last time the engine had a full tuneup?

Check compression as well.

Yeah, I would definitely fix the exhaust right away. Apart from needing at least some back pressure to the engine, the built up exhaust may heat up the engine bay causing the possibility of overheating / damage to your engine, and if the exhaust fumes start leaking into the rest of the car, it can be very hazardous to both the drivers and passengers health. Correct me if I'm wrong, but having the exhaust shoot fire could indicate seals wearing out in the engine and could be a sign of a soon to come rebuild.

Back pressure is not needed for the engine. In fact, back pressure is almost always bad for any engine.

Having no exhaust after the manifold almost certainly means less heat buildup in the engine bay. Though I totally agree when you say that the hot exhaust gasses are not good for anything around them (mainly this will hurt the ECU area of the interior).

Fumes are absolutely the biggest danger if there is no exhaust after the manifold.

Shooting fire is a normally rotary byproduct when the exhaust is opened up and/or emissions controls are removed/disabled.

yea the guy cut it right in front of the cat so the headers are still there and i think the downpipe thats wat it looks like to me but it was sitting for about 5 months and the guy rarely turned it on so i have no idea when the last tune up was. What would i need for the tune up on the car? i changed the plugs and all it did was pop louder so that disapointed me wat else? also where can i find a cheap exhaust for my car?

Look at a junkyard if you just want a stock exhaust.

I guess you could look in the second gen classifieds or you could get an aftermarket exhaust.
