HELP!! Starter or engine blown?



Walked out to my car to go to work and my car is doing this exactly (not my video).
Any ideas?

just for kicks,try a boost.(then starter related,or battery weak).
my other "gut" feeling says it could just be flooded.

Since posting I have tried a few things... I pulled the fuse and turned my engine over to unflood it, then tried again with the same results. After that, a friend and I tried to push start it, and the car rolled, engine turned, no start.

I thought maybe the starter wasn't engaging, but there is some exhaust coming out of the muffler when I try to start it, so the starter is in fact engaging.


So here is what I know so far...

It isn't a flood problem
The starter is engaging
There seems to be next to no compression.


I will try a boost and see if that helps, but its looking like I blew a seal.

Here are a few videos of my car this time. The one from outside, if you look closely you will see a little bit of smoke coming out the muffler. A friend of mine put his hand up to it while turning over and there is more exhaust coming out than there looks to be.

Okay, so went out again and pulled the EGI fuse again, and no results... just sounds the slightest bit different with the fuse out, could just be me though.

Even after turning it over for 20 seconds with the fuse out, i couldn't get it to start, and it sounds as if it is turning over way too easily.

One thing I noticed was that there is some white smoke coming out the muffler after turning over with or without the fuse, and when I take of the oil cap it smells a bit like gas.

change the spake plugs!!! while those are out take egi out turn it over like six times new plugs...try and start again if that dont get it check fuel pressher..or even kick the dam gas tank lol..

My biggest concern is that from the moment I started turning it over I knew something was wrong. Plus it hasn't given me any problems like this in the past, and the plugs are 4-5 months old.

Check compression if you feel there is something more to your problem. If the engine is flooded it will wash away the oil and make the motor sound a bit different. If it is unflooded then remove the lower plugs and pull the INJ fuse and turn the engine over to remove the excess fuel from the rotor housings. Then place a teaspoon or so of oil into the plug holes. You could then replace everything and spray one second of starter spray into the air intake and try to start again.

I took your advise but had no luck. I will upload another video shortly. It's definitely not flooded, not the starter, not the battery, has a spark... Could I have a broken apex seal?

Heres another one for sound.

When I was turning it over with the plugs out, it turned over at the same speed and sounded almost exactly like it did in this video, minus the poof of air out of the plug holes.

Also, I had another smell, and the oil cap/ dip stick smells more like fuel than oil...

I own a jeep and a 1988 rx7. Try a new battery. it sounds like a stupid suggestion, but my jeep was doing the same thing awhile ago and i replaced the battery and it was fine.

Boost was a bust... Turned over a little faster maybe. That rules out the battery being the problem.

Thought it might be flooded again from trying last night so i went through the unflooding cycle, and still nothing.

Is it a possibility that one of my apex seals is broken or a different seal was blown?

What should I be trying next?

what was the state of the car before this happened? and mods? was it running? were you driving it? did it just magically start doing this? that would tell alot more of the story vs the 1,000's of " help my car doesnt start" threads.

not trying to be a jerk just trying to help you. so help us help you. and im sorry goto autozone and rent a piston comp tester for 35 bucks and test it, at least youll know that much for sure. before you spend more time and money on scrap. if you are truly worried about it possibly being blown. i say rule out that, and work you way down the list of the basics. fuel and spark.

test your injectors you should hear them pulsing. and check the fuel pump for voltage. and your filter. its defiantly sounds fuel related. and that not enough juice to start it based on that last video. im surprised its even rolling over that slow. have oyu checked for good spark? honestly maybe a coil or ignitor took a dump...

It has 1025000 km on it, all original, no mods. It was running fine, but in the last week or so I was noticing a pretty decent loss in power, and was blaming it on the cold weather. That might not be related though.

I have a good spark and have fuel, and the engine is definitely turning over, tried boosting too.

Okay, so typo, 102500 km, not over 1 million haha.

I just got back inside after going out with a checklist of everything I have researched and what has been suggested.

I have tried to boost it, push start, de-flood numerous times, checked all fluid levels, confirmed injectors are working, checked for spark (just shocked myself) and just a bit of tinkering. It was just running on Friday, so is there something I could be missing? Like I said I noticed power loss, but it came with the cold weather.

comp test it worse that happens is that its fine and you wasted 5 minutes of your time vs beating you head against the wall for hours.

100 and 100. Plus I got it running. Hardly starts, runs like ****, and billows out smoke. It got really cold one night between when it was running and when it stopped, and the owner before me never winter drive it so I doubt it had antifreeze in it.

Never even thought about antifreeze until now as all the fluids were good. Could that have wrecked something?

Unless your so called "coolant" froze,no.
Change that crap out to a 50/50 mix of Coolant and Distilled water.
I'd check the plugs too.Clean them off at least.
..By the way I am In Smiths Falls if you ever get this way..

I will upload some pictures of the plugs. I also noticed that there is antifreeze leaking out around the cap on the hose (don't remove when hot cap).

Not sure where to go from here... It is running, but sounds bad, smokes a lot and smells funny. Is there a gasket that could be gone allowing engine coolant into the engine, which would be causing all of the smoke?

Also, when I turned the engine over with the bottom plugs out, the liquid it spit out went all creamy coloured on the ground after it got cold.
