help with starter

I could really use some advise on why the starter on my 85 rx7. The battery is good and upon turning the key i can hear the click of the solenoid engaging, but it wont crank, when i take it out of the car to test it i can can get it to shoot foward and crank, but every time i put it back in i get no crank, the starter is new and it did crank the engine for a few attempts, then i got that click again, and ive had it ever since, i bought the car for something to do over the summer, and because i am very intrigued by rotaries, but i myself have very little experience working with cars, and my dad isnt mechanicaly inclined, any help at all would be greatly appriciated

thanks
justin

The starter is bad. I have seen this happen a few other times with reman starters from parts stores. Take it back and tell them you want a different one. If they wont get you a different one, demand the money back (since its obviously good still, right?). Even if they test it and show you its good, stick to your guns. If/when they refund you (if they dont give you a different one) get a reman starter from a different place.
