Help please

So background I have an 85 gs that for what I know is bone stock that I had recently bought. I have had a little bit of an issue and do not know where to start to fix it. Twice the car has died on me and kinda left me stranded with what I think is a flooding issue. Both times the issue has occured it was after highway driving and on the streets, it stalls out on me and can't get it started again after letting it sit for a few hours it fires up with some effort and patients. When I get it to start i get a lot of white smoke out of the tail pipe and smells way rich of 91 octane fuel. The carb has been cleaned, and kind of out of ideas since I don't know much about these motors. Has anyone seen or experienced this issue, and what was the fix? Is it common and is it an issue that is going to be expensive to fix or a carb tuning issue? Thanks for any suggestions or input that could lead to a solution to this problem.

for one thing you do not need to use 91 octane on a GS..it is an N/A engine and they only require minimum octane of around 85-87.
Any more than that is waste of money.

Does the car die while driving?,or is it after driving that you try to restart and it will not start?

It will die while driving and am not able to get it restarted, unless I let it sit over night. Which is leading me to think its a flooding issue of some sort. I changed the plugs tonight. The rear plugs were covered in fuel and oil pretty bad I'm thinking of ordering a carb rebuild kit. Rebuild it and make sure the jetting is correct for the altitude here in Albuquerque.
