Unhappy Help needed

Hello and thanks in advance for any help provided. Heres my problem. I have a 1989 with a 13b non turbo. This past winter the alternator went out and since this is not my work driver I let the car sit throughout the winter. Well, I finally got around to replacing the alternator and fired her up. Car started right up, idled smooth, no problem. After about ten minutes the check engine light came on. I turned the car off let it sit a minute and restarted engine. Car started right up and after about ten minutes light came back on. I figured it might be stale gas or whatnot. restarted car, no check engine light pulled out of driveway to go get some new gas. Car started out fine in first gear but when i hit second and gave it some gas, car started hesitating and jerking and check engine light came on.. No power and had to sloooowwwwllly give it gas to get anywhere at all. You could shift into third on up as long as you slowly fed it gas but give it too much and man oh man she acted like she wanted to lay down and die. Put in new gas with some injector cleaner. Restarted no light pulled fine in first, hit second and same thing check engine light came on and bad hesitation and jerking. didnt improve over several outings so i took to mech to read code. He said the code pointed to mass airflow meter. These cars are not that common around here so I ended up buying one at autozone and having it replaced. Needless to say didnt work or I wouldnt be asking about it here. Any ideas on this because the old replacing parts till you get it right gets pretty darn expensive after awhile.

He may have confused the code "MOP" for "MAF".

What you describe is limp mode and is commonly caused by a failed metering oil pump.
