ok so i went and got my car drove it home. on the way home it some times acted like the fuel had a restriction .. or somthing like it would cut out but pick right back up. and hit i put my foot in the gas it would get a bit worse but if i eased in the gas it would drive great! now what i want to know is , is this somthing with the fuel system ? maybe the fuel filter ? or somthing else ? the motor has 30k miles on it and there is not a sound comping from the engine it sound great! so i dont think its anything in the engine but i really dont know just looking for help!

Are you out of fuel?

Check the TPS to make sure it works and is reading within factory specs.

Check the fuel pickup sock in the tank, and the main fuel filter. Make sure that the tank baffles are still in place.

thanks for the reply i changed out the TPS and nothing changed it is reading good. iv not checked the sock in the tank as im not sure the easy-st way to get to it. as for the fuel filter it will be changed tomorrow ( when i get the new one ). im hoping it is somthing to do with the fuel and nothing else. as the car only has 30k on it and was owned by an old man and when i got it i did slid it around a few turns testing it and im thinking that might of knocked some things lose in the tank and maybe got hung in the filter ? iv not got a clue!

The fuel sock is relatively easy to check. Pull the hatch carpeting towards the driver's seat and there is an access plate that is held down by four screws. Under that you can see the fuel pump assembly screwed down to the gasoline tank. Detach the wiring harness from the pump assembly. Loosen the screws (ten of them, I think), clamp both of the flexible hoses closed to minimize fuel spillage and pull the assembly up out the tank. It needs to be tilted to clear the baffles and such inside the tank. The fuel sock is small and rectangular attached to the bottom of the pump.

No, if it had a catalytic converter then it would be suspect for being clogged and THAT can descrease performance. Since it has a straight pipe from what you are saying I doubt that there are any restrictions there. On a series 5 car, the auxilliary ports are actuated by the air pump pressure. On a series 4 car (what you have) this is done by back pressure from the exhaust system. However, that would not come into effect until you built RPMs and load on the engine (ie. whomping on it in accelerating from a dead stop). Long answer for no, the air pump would not be causing the issues you are experiencing.

You might want to check your spark plugs. My rx7 was driving fine & when it warmed up would start cutting in & out under heavy acceleration. Turns out one of my spark plugs had fouled. Replaced my spark plugs and haven't had the problem since.
