Hello everyone im new here and new to rotary engines and i was wondering if someone could explain to me how an itb setup works. What parts are needed, how difficult is the install, ball park cost, performance expectations and does the engine loose reliability. Ive tried finding videos and have had no luck.

 

ITBs tend to have better throttle response and a little better efficiency vs. a single throttle plate, and the air horns can be changed to help optimize hp or torque for a particular racetrack. Such a setup is really more for an advanced tuner who can make the most of the situation, so in your case I'm not sure if it is worth the extra money and effort.

Here is a link to some typical ITB parts. You would also need an aftermarket manifold, plus other parts (fuel injectors, EFI fuel pump and filter, EFI fuel line and fittings, standalone EMS, air filters, plenum, aftermarket throttle position sensor, etc.), depending on what your car has on it now and how you want it configured. You are looking at somewhere between $2,000 to $15,000 for the parts.

2 grand to 15 grand for an ITB setup?

I'd rather stay Stupid than to understand that crap!.lol!

My price estimate only includes the parts, not the understanding of them.

LOL, as I have stated on this forum since 1998...

If you have extra money, invest in a retirement account (IRA, 401k, etc.) while you are still young.

If you have extra time and want to learn about cars or other things, take college or tech school courses.

The car is 26 years old, so there must be something that needs fixing, lol.

What is your goal for the car?

Did you replace all the fluids, filters, belts, hoses, spark plugs and wires, and other routine maintenance parts? How about the mounts and bushings? Does it still have the original rubber fuel lines and original radiator?

Just for clarification, you have a real sports car, not some econobox Honda that needs a lot of aftermarket parts to be fun and look cool.

 

Thats a very good point about this being a real sports car and not a civic lol it puts things into perspective. I am going to do all the maintance of course. My goal for the car now is just some spirited driving in a car ive always wanted. My brother in law gave me this car for free! The only depressing thing is its auto........fml!

 

I'm sure if you get to the CDN For sale section that guys in the GTA would have some parts layin around to do a 5 speed conversion.
I actually just went half way up the 401!.
Many ONT guys frequent the club so you should feel at home.

Well, there is your project if you are looking for something to upgrade. Fair warning though, converting to a manual transmission is a pain in the butt. See the below website link for instructions to determine if you want to try the conversion.

If you are interested in this, I would recommend using a new aftermarket steel or aluminum driveshaft from Mazdatrix, aftermarket Exedy clutch and pressure plate, OEM or aftermarket 4.10 or 4.30 LSD, and light flywheel of your choice.
