TN Help for a deer in the headlights

Since my Dad's passing, I've inherited a 1990 convertible RX-7 that he was refurbishing. It was a project he was so excited about and proud of, but sadly never got to complete. I know absolutely NOTHING about this or any other car, honestly. I don't have any close friends who know much about cars either, so thats why I've joined this club...to learn. I don't know enough about the specifics of the car to really even talk about it. If I post photos of the engine, etc. can some of you tell me what I have here? (Is it a turbo, etc)

Sure you can post a pic of the engine, but I can tell you that if the car is original US version then it would NOT have a Turbo engine in it..

There is a member Fire85GSLSE in the Nashville area. He posts in the SE regional threads occasionally. Try sending him a PM, relate your story. He may be willing to look over your car and point you in the right direction. Rx7 people are good like that.

Sorry to hear of your loss...glad to hear you will carry out a legacy. I was in same boat primarily, and would advise talking to as many people as possible. Also, a big thing that caught me off guard, take tons of pictures. TONS! You never know how valuable a pic is until the moment you wish you had one. Good luck on car, sure you come across some great sources to help- I will offer one site that may help you learn -www.oemautopartz.com
Cheers!

I'm sorry to hear about your dad passing away. I know what it's like too, having lost my dad in 2005, along with the deer in the headlights feeling you get from trying to figure out a system that doesn't seem to make sense (cough cough 1987 Chevrolet S10 Blazer with Throttle Body Injection ) and how it may have been altered from the original configuration. But it was that which led me eventually here when I got my RX7, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The best place to begin your research is the Second Generation FAQ here:
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...faq-fc-494667/

No convertibles in North America came as turbocharged from the factory. 89-91 is what we call Series 5 (S5 for short) and is a bit different from Series 4 (AKA S4, 1986-1988). One easy way to tell if yours is bone-stock is to look at the intake manifold on top of the engine. It will say "Mazda 13B Injection". If you have a hood scoop that's slightly off-center and the top of the engine says "Rotary Turbo with Intercooler" or "13B Turbo II with Intercooler", it has a Turbo II engine swap.

It would be difficult to flesh out every possible modification (as there's a lot of individualism found in each), so I would like to second Misterstyx69's request for an underhood picture to make a better appraisal of your starting point.
