I have a 12a all stock the chocke won't stay out when cold I have to hold it out while turning key and the idle is kinda funny. Still runs strong. Had someone tell me carb rebuild another said timing and another said vacume leak. I'm lost, any ideas or anybody out of Chicago I can meet up and get real experienced help?

 

There is an eleco magnet that holds the choke cable and is controlled by a electric sensor one or both are not working

Only thing I will add is this, if the car runs strong like you said (smooth , progressive power with throttle), and the only issue is idle, then I would say:
1. check for vacuum leaks - be thorough - double and triple check (they are notoriously easy to miss)
2. set idle mixture and speed per the FSM (do this only when you have confirmed there are no vacuum leaks)
3. verify timing with a light

Found some help off of craiglist surprise and satisfied with work, found that it was a timing issue. Did a little bit of cleaning and adjusting on the distributor and now it has a much better response on the gas pedal. Just want to show my support for the culture as in the past I've gotten good ideas and help from rx7club.com. I'm not a mechanic but get my hands dirty remember to ask questions, be patient and work with the mechanic so you can help others in future. I know it sounds corny but hey it is what it is.
