help
ok quick info and checklist 87 FC na, starter gets no power car will push start i can also turn motor by hand. When i got the car the ignition switch had already been popped so i figured i would ditch the switch and run a button start. Also might as well relocate the battery. A diagram for dummies would work, eletrical work is a chalange for me lol. Quick new parts list: plugs, wires, starter, fuel pump, battery, maf
Thanks
Thanks
i havent started anything yet i was hoping to get a diagram first so i wouldnt make any mistakes. The popped oem ignition switch is still connected (symptoms: acc and fuel pump work when turned to start position absolutely nothing happens) New swapped parts: plugs, wires, starter, fuel pump, battery. She also runs when push started. I would like to just run some swithes and a button start and relocate the battery.
To clarify, does the car normally need the clutch to be depressed to start the car or not, as there is a switch on some S4's that require the clutch to be depressed while the early S4's do not. If you have this Interlock Switch then this may well be your issue. We need to know this to get the ball running.

The harness which feeds the switch will have two wires and they are Black/Red and Black/Green. The B/G wire would have voltage w/key to start and the clutch depressed. B/R supplies voltage to the switch from the ignition w/key to start. If both of these wires check out okay then your problem lies elesewhere.
You also need to tell us if your car the factory alarm or not.

no factory alarm i got the 7 just a couple months ago and the guy before me popped the ignition ya know, gone in 60 sec, style but yea first thing in the morning im just tryin to get her really running rather than having to push her like a skateboard and dumping the clutch is there away to bypass the clutch and interlocking switches and just totally rule that out
You're going to have to find out whether you have the switch in the first place or not. One step at a time. The Clutch Switch is not part of the starting circuit, but the Interlock is if equipped.
If B/R has power w/key to start and B/G does not w/the clutch depressed then your Interlock Switch is the problem. If you jumper the two wires to this switch together then your starter should turn over w/key to start.
