TN Heater problems

Hi guys I have a 1988 RX-7 GTU and Im having heater problems. It will blow hot air for a few seconds then go back to cold. It does it just about every time I turn the heater off then on. Any ideas to what it could possibly be?

Basically the heater just wont stay hot. It will we warm for a little bit then switch to cold. Sometimes it will go back to being warm, but it usually just stays cold.

there is usually 2 reasons for this to happen first off the rad could be low and not be able to circulate proper through heater core or there is air in the system .. Do you see a high variable between temp ( does the gauge go up and down a fair amount ) It is also possible that the heater door components are not working proper and not allowing air to enter the heater core area ..

Well the temp gauge does have a lot of variables. And i found that one of the heater hoses was lose and sucking air. I also replaced the thermostat to be safe.

Exclamation

I have been "bleeding" the radiator through the bleed screw. Just now i went to bleed it and it shot out with a lot of pressure. In the mix i lost the radiator drain/bleed plug. I am going to wait until daylight to do a thourough search for it. But if i cannot find it, what should i do? Im pretty sur emy local shops dont even have one on hand. And is it essential to have it in or will it just leak anti freeze everywhere?
kinda scared haha

Are you trying to bleed the system through the Radiator drain plug ? If so you will never get the air out from the bottom , The air all goes to the highest spot you need to bleed the air out the filler cap .

The filler cap is most likely on the thermostat housing unless it just has a surge tank . How do you add or check your coolant level ? As far as the drain plug most likely you will need a junk yard if you can't find it . you are talking about the plug in the bottom of the rad right .
