Heater Problems

Well when I first got my car the heater blower was really weak. Now it just doesnt even blow anymore. Just curious if there is anything I should check before I go ahead and but a new hvac unit. Also once the car warms up I can smell antifreeze and my windshield will start to fog. up. This is a huge problem since the blower doesnt work at all.

Any help would be awesome.
Thanks Doug

P.s This is on a 93 FD

You should definitely test the fan motor and heater core before blindly buying parts hoping it will fix the problem. Unless of course you got money to spare.

Their is a thread on heater core replacement in the 3rd gen forum. I can't remember if it is in the FAQ but look for it in the FAQ and search for it if its not there.

Is your car stock or does it have a Power FC? There is a well documented issue with the Power FC where if you don't cut one of the wires correctly, the HVAC will not blow very hard.

I have a ls1 in the car if that matters. I will look into the faq and see what I can come up with. Thanks

Doesn't matter much in this case.

I can't find the thread in the FAQ but I know I have seen one on removing the heater core. Worse case scenario, just download the Factory Service Manual and follow the procedure there.

I just tried searching and there are a bunch of threads from others with hvac problems and a couple with heater core problems. There are a couple of good threads on removing the dash as well if you need to do that.
