Hard start, yes I've read faqs on flooded engines

its a '79 and has no choke and also has locked timing so it is already advanced because it is prepped for spec rx7. It's always hard to start but today with it being cold I think I flooded it. I usually have to pump the pedal about 20+ times before starting but today it must have been too much. I tried starter fluid but no puffs nothing just turn and turn.

My battery was low too, do these cars have trouble starting with a low battery?

I have a track day on Saturday and this is the first time I will get to drive this car since I bought it a month ago. I want to make sure I'm as prepared as possible and definately have to start the thing.

Are there any pointers on how to get a more consistent start and not flood or not under gas since no choke?

should I start turning it over first then start pumping the pedal like mad? Should I really change the oil? the stuff is pretty new that is in there....

Yeah, rebuild the carb. But, to get you running in the mean time, grab a can of Seafoam or (for half the price) B12 Chemtool and pour a couple of ounces down the small barrels of the carb. That will clear out 99% of flooding issues. Had to do this myself yesterday after flooding on a (very) cold start attempt. Works great.
