Harbor freight pilot bearing tool

Has anyone tried this Harbor Freight tool for the pilot bearing?

Blind Hole Bearing Puller - Needle Bearing Puller

It looks very similar to the Mazda tool.

Works well, though because the mandrels are cheaply made, they do wear out quickly.

pilot bearing removal

The harbor freight tool works but it has to be heavily modified because it is too big. I used a dremel tool to grind down the three arms. You also have to grind down the tip of the arms to get them behind the pilot bearing. It is a little messing around but a lot cheaper than buying the special tool.

Mine worked flawlessly without modifications.

Easier to just use a porting bit to grind the pilot bearing. It takes less than 2 minutes

No pictures but I've put my MAZDA pilot bearing SST next to the Harbor Frieght version and it sure as hell looked like it would work.

I recommend getting one of them (bearing pullers). Takes less than 30 seconds and no risk of damaging the hole/seat.
